Just like the rain water which is pure our soul is by birth pure.But when the rain water comes and mixes with mud it becomes muddy water, in the same way when we come into contact to the three material modes the soul is contaminated.The muddy water can be purified by certain process, in the same way our conscious can be purified in the association of the teachings of saintly persons like Prabhupada and Radhanath swami.
