“It’s not the body that people love, but the soul. The body is a temporary vehicle. Without the soul, the body is like a car without a driver. I see through my eyes, smell through my nose, taste through my tongue, hear through my ears, feel through my skin, think through my brain, and love through my heart. But who am I? Who is the witness, enjoyer and sufferer that activates my body?”
– Radhanath Swami in The Journey Home book
Correct! And there is an example where an old lady tries to feed the cage which has parrot inside it. After sometime, the parrot dies by starvation while the lady still continues to take care of the dead cage.
Yes true! People who don’t consider soul to be the witness, never believe in reincarnations and put unnecessary questions without consenting that there might be something other than the body.
A very graphic description of who we are. Radhanath Swami Maharaj has very vividly described the existence of a soul within the body. Scriptures give another way to understand the same soul. It is mentioned there that body is like a chariot which is being controlled through the soul who is the passenger on the chariot. However, when the soul comes in the grip of mind (the reins), it cannot take decision on its own and loses the control to mind, which ultimately is driven by the senses (the horses).
Very powerful quote! Gives us the realization about the body and soul!
It is time this knowledge of the soul and the cause of the entire universe should be taught in universities, for this knowledge will bring about a jolly good change in the lives of people.
Thank you.
Thank you for sharing such a wonderful article :).
Very beautiful quote..I love this quote because it talks about your real identity. Thank you Radhanath Swami!!!
Dehino smin yatha deha………….Thank you maharaj for the quote
Radhanath Swami disciples take a cool workshop on Body & Soul it is called Journey of Self Discovery…it is pretty good one….
But who am I? Who is the witness, enjoyer and sufferer that activates my body?……These are the genuine question any sincere spiritual aspirant could ask to get out of the clutches of Maya.
It’s not the body that people love…..Yes Maharaj this very true and nobody would like to sit near a dead body.
Well said! Radhanath Swami Maharaj on one of his lectures said that once a person dies, irrespective of how important he/she was, no one likes to be close to him/her. That’s the reality of this body.
the example given to explain difference between soul and body is very nice
thanks a lot Maharaj.
Thank you for the realization that we are actually the soul and not the body.
In Bhagvad gita fifth chapter 8,9 slokas Krishna says The one who has higher conscious seeing, eating, moving one place to another, sleeping, breathing, though all these activities he is doing,he knows that he is not doing.because all these activities are done by the senses.but he is far awayfrom all these. All glories to maharaj.
Thank you for sharing this wonderful quote by Radhanath Swami.
Thank you Radhanath swami maharaj
it is a powerful annology maharaj has given
wonderful
Thanks to Radhanath Swami for a wonderful explanation.
Despite knowing this all, what is it that makes a man still think he is the body and not the soul. I am quite intrigued by this Radhanath Swami Maharaj?
Wonderfully said Maharaj, We are not the body we are the soul.
Radhanath Swami so nicely explains that we have an existence apart from this temporary body and actually when we love someone we love the real person, the soul and not the body. Without the soul, the body has no value its just dead matter
very nice explanation swamiji……thanks
We are driven by bodily needs but it is the needs of the soul that must be taken care of first. Thanks Maharaj for reaching out to many with this message.
so simple….thank you so much Maharaj!
Radhanath Swami gives here a simple and lucid example to understand the fundamental difference between body and soul
This is a fantastic quote by Radhanath Swami. It gives so much pleasure when Radhanath Swami repeats the same words in his own style which were told by Lord Krishna in Bhagavad Geeta.
Very simple yet revealing piece of writing by Radhanath Swami.
Such a striking analogy to understand how we are not body but soul.
If one can understand this simple fact , I am not this BODY , I am the soul ,then that is the perfection of once life…Srila Prabhupada Says…Thank you very much HH Radhanath Swami Maharaj.
If once can understand this simple thought , then SP say’s that is perfection of life.Thank you very much HH Radhanath Swami maharaj.
Thank you HH Radhanath Swami maharaj for awakening my sleeping soul.
Life of all is so much body centered that soul dies in hunger, soul food is to chant holy names and discuss about krishna.
Today, everybody is just running behind the bodily activities but forgetting the real one that is soul, the real driver of the body.
Thank you Maharaj for reminding me my real identity.
