Essence of Bhakti tradition explained in a nutshell…! Thank you Maharaj for this formula for success in spiritual life..!
Very true! Ours is a “grace” movement where success of our endeavors depends a lot on grace. However, to get that grace, we need to tune-in our consciousness.
What an amazing quote from Radhanath Swami Maharaj. A perfect definition of what Grace is all about. It is very true that anything and everything in devotional service is based on the grace of spiritual master, devotees or the Lord Himself. Sometimes, we see that devotees are more merciful than the Lord.
Agree with you Sumit. we must know the importance of the “Grace” in our life.
Agree Sumit ji. Devotees seem to be more merciful as yet..
Radhanath Swami’s this quote opens up lot of profound diversified topics. One dimension I could gather, is this:
Grace is essential to understand God. But only a rare soul is qualified to receive it. Even if it is bestowed to people like me, by His causeless mercy, I feel I am not ready and not able to take it. Unless purified from all the undesirable material desires, we can’t receive the flow of that grace and even if it comes we can’t handle it, unless He makes us qualified to receive it.
Really inspiring wisdom.
Wonderfully said! Actually we are not eligible to receive this grace, however causeless mercy of devotees make it available to us. We are so grateful to all of our acharyas for spreading this Bhakti movement that now pretty much every town and village is aware about it. That itself is a wonderful thing because now people have this option to chose whenever they realize how troublesome this material world is and the only solace is to open their hearts for this grace to enter into their consciousness. Thank you very much Radhanath Swami Maharaj for this amazing quote.
very true Sumitji

I just looked up at the actual meaning of “grace” in the dictionary. There are several meanings – like favor or goodwill or kindness or a manifestation of favor especially by a superior or mercy….I think the amazing statement made by HH Radhanath Swami includes all these meanings. Only by the Lord’s mercy/favor or kindness can we know Him. How else “we” who cannot even fathom our own body’s working know the infinitely wonderful, powerful and amazing Lord who’s the source of everything including this magnificent creation. The more you meditate on this statement the more you realise how insignificant we are. Thank you.
It’s inspiring to see how u tried to understand this quote in depth. I too feel this is the way to make spiritual advancement. Rather than try to dig into esoteric truths we should try to go deeper into the simple truths of our philosophy. That will open a whole new world.
Nicely said! You have realized the process of Grace.
We are insignificant, infinitesimal, little tiny jivatmas who have rebelled enviously against Krishna since time immemorial and is engaged in egoistic sinful activities. Does Krishna need our love? But He is so kind, He is so merciful that even when an insignificant jiva chants the holy name…. We’re not chanting because Krishna needs, we are chanting because Krishna loves us. Krishna wants us to be happy. Krishna wants us to experience the unlimited oceanic nectar of His love from a positive side.
This quote sounds like a aphorism from some ancient scripture. I must say that this is really deep wisdom from HH Radhanath Swami. Without Lord Krishna (infinite) wills to reveal himself to us (finite) there is no hope for us to know his even a slight bit and that will of Krishna to reveal himself to us happens on by grace.
Simply Amazing !!!
I agree Piyush , it is just as if we do not want anybody to know about us ,one can just speculate who we are . So , what to speak of the supreme Lord , who is infinite and if he does not want to reveal himself to us , we will just get bewildered in speculating about him .We can only know the Supreme Lord by his grace ,and in no other way . What a deep insight by HH Radhanath Swami.
So well commented Abhishek.
Yes, we do see similar situations in this material world also and then the Lord also being an individual have his own inclination to shower his grace when he feel satisfied.
Very true Piyush. Thanks.
Yes. It sounds like a sutra, which can be expanded unlimitedly.
Reading the comments I am surprised by the various possibilities of understanding this one sloka.
Radhanath Swami has made a nice point here. How else can the finite know the infinite? Even in our everyday experience, how can we expect a small ant to know the affairs of human beings? Even if an ant researches for its entire lifetime, IMPOSSIBLE.
This is common sense is uncommon, because most scientists are driven by their ego. Their ego covers their intelligence.
Wonderfully captured the basic point. I particularly liked the analogy of “ant” not being able to understand and know human’s power. It is like atheistic scientists trying to put efforts to understand this creation.
Everything & everybody in this material world in all circumstances totally depends on the grace of the lord. spiritually ignorant fools may deny this fact because of their temporary material wealth, education, social status etc… but by the grace of the spiritual master, this fallen finite living entity by becoming a devotee will understand the infinite……that is why a gaudiya acharya pray’s “gurudev kripa bindu diya….” means, O spiritual master please give me a drop of grace mercy…. & only by this grace lord will reveal himself to a devotee & devotee will understand the lord, as lord krishna said in Bhagavathgeeta .”bhatka mam abhijanathi…”. thank you maharaj for reveling the necessity of grace.
