“A person influenced by circumstances can become viciously envious or affectionately kind. Our company and our surroundings have a crucial effect on our consciousness. How important it is to be an instrument to bring out the inherent good of each other rather than the worst.”
– Radhanath Swami in The Journey Home book.
True! A man is judged by the company he keeps. If we associate with envious people we will become envious and if we associate with Vaishnavas and devotees, we will be inspired to become compassionate, helpful and loving. So we should all try to be in the association of devotees to progress on the spiritual path and encourage each other.
“Birds of a feather flock together.” The crows are attracted to garbage whereas swans to crystal pure water where there are lotuses. We have a choice- to be swan-like or crow-like.
Thank you Swamiji
Envy just burns away our heart its like keeping burning charcoal in our hand intend to throw at other person but in the mean time it will burns our own hand
The person’s behaviour depends on which type of association he is keeping.Saintly peple association is very essential. All glories to maharaj.
As Maharaj said bring out good in others, it encourages both the speaker (one who is speaking) and to the listener (about whom it is spoken).
That is the greatest need of the world today: people need to bring out the inherent good of each other……
Very true. Our nature changes as per the association we take. So, it’s very important to associate with people of godly qualities. Thank you Radhanath Swami for reminding us.
What an amazing perception? Exalted souls like Radhanath swami though physically live on the same planet as ourselves, their consciousness is way beyond.
In our current world, we are taught so much to think of ourselves externally; we hard think of some one and if do, its usually to criticize/find fault.
Now here is a paramahamsa teaching us – how we should behave – “be an instrument to bring out the inherent good of each other rather than the worst”
Very true….someone has said that one should not promise when one is very happy…..
Very nicely put : to be an instrument to bring out the inherent good of each other rather than the worst …
So true. Difficult but not impossible to practice
This is superb, unparallel
