To the degree you are enjoying honor, to that degree it is going to really hurt when there is dishonor. If you don’t really care about honor, then dishonor doesn’t hurt either.

So every situation is potentially blessing or a curse according to how we perceive it and according to how we respond to the situation. Divine blessing is that which connects us with the love of God and that’s always there.
True! the more we aspire for honor and recognition, the more we will be depressed when it does not come. As it is said in the Gita, do your duty and don’t expect the fruits. In this way we will not be excessively happy when we are honored or excessively dejected when we are dishonored.
As lord krishna said in bhagavadgeeta” Tulya ninda stutir mouni…..” the importance of balance honour & dishonor…… srila Radhanath swami has given a wonderful formula…..thank you very much maharaj.
Wonderful quote from Radhanath Swami Maharaj. We should try to avoid getting puffed up when we are honored because at times you would might dishonored as well. However, we can always give honor to others.
Right I agree too with you Sumit.
100% truth in this quote by Radhanath Swami. Because in science also we learn that for every action there is an equal and opposite reaction. So more you become happy we are bound to become equally unhappy. We all experience this.
Great point Vilas. Somewhere else Radhanath Swami quotes that we can always be happy in giving others honor because that’s in our hands, however the reverse is not always possible.
well said..
I agree with this quote, it so true for most of us.
Very inspiring quote depicting how we need to focus on this most subtle aspect of Honor.
In precise words HH Radhanath Swami Maharaj has explained the essentials of life. We strive for Name, Fame, Prestige & Recognition ! We Expect that people should respect us but, at same time we always fail to appreciate and respect people. This tendency for getting the name, fame, Prestige & Recognition needs dovetailed in the service to Lord ! Thank You very Much Maharaj for this wonderful life time lesson !
Gita says – People will always speak of your infamy, and for one who has been honored, dishonor is worse than death. The Lord says, “Arjuna, if you leave the battlefield, people will call you a coward even before your actual flight. And if you think that people may call you bad names but that you will save your life by fleeing the battlefield, then My advice is that you’d do better to die in the battle. For a respectable man like you, ill fame is worse than death. So, you should not flee for fear of your life; better to die in the battle. That will save you from the ill fame of misusing My friendship and from losing your prestige in society.” Swamiji explains these things in simple words
Too good maharaj how simple our life becomes if we truly understand it.
so important to be not attached to being honoured! wonderful lesson by Maharaj!
So true. We constantly see people changing or rejecting jobs, business partners, houses, friends, parents and spouses driven by this feeling of honor and dishonor….! One who is equiposed in dualities is indeed a saintly person.
Very true. Thanks for the nice thoughts.
Maharaj is such a great example of how to pass on the honor to others. He will never accept a compliment for himself, he will always pass it on. And when it comes to dishonor he will tolerate without any hue and cry. That’s the secret of not being attached to honor or dishonor. Its easier said than done, but Maharaj is setting such a great example in front of us. we can try to follow him as much as possible.
To stay away from honor and dishonor is very difficult in this material world. However, staying near devotees and being in their association can protect us from it. This is a very special quote from Radhanath Swami.
So well said. Indeed this is a very special wisdom from HH Radhanath Swami.
Yes its true that association of devotees is essential..
Agree with you Raja. We can always honor others and remain happy about it. However, the other way is not always possible.
Such a wonderful quote
Very powerful quote! If we are not attached to being honoured, then dishonour will not disappoint us either.
Thank you Radhanath Swami for this important lesson that one should not care about being honoured in life for by doing so we’ll be saved from being hurt when dishonour comes which is natural to come in this world of dualities.
wow what a statement !!!
Very nice statement by Radhanath Swami. This is one of the most subtle desires which lingers around till the time we get rid of the concept of “I am the doer” and realize the hand and sanction of Supreme Lord, Krishna in every action of us.
So well said. This “I’m the doer” conception and the hankering for the honor really keeps us far away from advancing in spiritual life.
yes this is what false ego is “i am the doer”
Such practical guidance from HH Radhanath Swami. Enjoying honor has a possibility of us getting addicted to it and it’d hurt really bad when it is not available, which is bound to happen at time in this material and miserable world.
Very true. For a person who is honoured, dishonour is worse than death
Well said :).
Wonderful quote from HH Radhanath Swami Maharaj.
For one who has conquered the mind, the Supersoul is already reached, for he has attained tranquillity. To such a man happiness and distress, heat and cold, honor and dishonor are all the same.
Thank you Maharaja
Very well said Mr. Jayant. Thank you.
very true.
Great thought Jayant!!! Radhanath Swami’s quotes are always charming and heart touching. If we can simply try to adopt the teachings of these quotes, our life will be successful because then we will have gratitude toward those who try to help us.
