  1. absolutely true…… as prabhupada has given the defination to bhakti—— is DEVOTIONAL SERVICE…

    1. Yes. Srila Prabhupad never referred Bhakti to be some emotions, but to a practical service focusing Krishna and His devotees in mind. That’s the example he set when he was physically present in this mortal world.

  2. An amazing quote from Radhanath Swami Maharaj. Selfless service can only have exchange of love which everyone is looking for. And real gratitude is beyond the superficiality of doing the things. Rather it has to do with doing the things with love and gratitude.

  3. Thank you Radhanath swami for instructing and inspiring us to not say the words just from mouth but from the heart. we could say many times thank you but how many times do we really mean it ?

    1. This is what we call “Walk the talk”. At times, it’s very difficult to do this, however people with divine characters always do that or at least try to put 100% in it. Even in life history of Radhanath Swami Maharaj, we can see how many times he simply put his 100% for his commitments.

  4. Saying thankyou is so easy but when it comes to living by it one has to work really hard.

    1. That’s very true specially in this age, where people are becoming hypocrites in their day-to-day dealings. The word “Thankyou” is used for anything and everything, but many times people who say it don’t mean it.

  5. Very true! Gratitude plays a very important part in our lives and specially our spiritual lives. We can never develop humility(the hall mark of a Vaishnava) if we are not grateful to the Lord for what he has given us, his unconditional love and mercy. Radhanath Swami elaborates saying that we can show our gratitude by rendering selfless service. Powerful definition of Gratitude

    1. Yes. It will be interesting if all the quotes on gratitude can be brought together to make one page of Gratitude Quotes.

The verse tat te ‘nu kampam….. sung by lord Brahma and recorded in the tenth canto of Srimad Bhagavatam is a verse on gratitude. And I have heard some sannyasis say that this is the most important mantra, next only in importance to the Hare Krishna mahamantra.

      1. True sir, the verse mentioned by you is really very deep. I googled and found the verse to check out and pasting the translation for everyone’s reference here: http://www.vedabase.com/en/sb/10/14/8

“My dear Lord, one who earnestly waits for You to bestow Your causeless mercy upon him, all the while patiently suffering the reactions of his past misdeeds and offering You respectful obeisances with his heart, words and body, is surely eligible for liberation, for it has become his rightful claim.”

    2. So true. Without gratitude we cannot build strong foundation where people can learn and grow spiritually.

  6. I completely agree to this that gratitude means to render selfless service. Gratitude is not just saying thank you externally. We must mean it and when we mean it we feel for the person and get desire to do something good for that person. Thank you Radhanath Swami for expression such a big thing in one line.

    1. Esoteric truths of life are simple. But to apply them is difficult. And when we find it difficult to apply even simple principles, we become humble. With that humility when we turn to Krishna, we attain his lotus feet.

      1. Such beautiful progression of events. This makes a lot of practical sense. Thank you sir sharing this wonderful wisdom.

  7. Nice quote. Saying ‘thank you’ should not just be a lip service. It should be from the core of our heart with a feeling of gratitude, gratefulness

    1. Yes very true! Today relationships have reduced to merely saying “Hello” and then disappearing. That’s the reason people don’t have strong bonds in any type of relationship. However, Srila Prabhupad and his disciples like Radhanath Swami Maharaj set examples to illustrate what it means to have strong relationships among devotees.

    1. Yes Biswajit prabhu, you have said “thank you”. How are you planning to live by that “thank you”? Can you please share?

  8. I liked these Bhakti centre of Radhanath Swami it gives a new paradigm to people like me and many

    1. Are you speaking about Bhakti Center in New York City? Yes, that is very nice Carl. It’s at Manhattan, and is very popular among spiritual seekers of the city. Do you also stay at New York City? If so, I can put you in touch with devotees there.

    2. Yes indeed! And great saints like Radhanath Swami Maharaj are dedicating their whole life and energy in serving the whole world by sacrificing everything for this noble cause.

  9. Saying Thank you and Living By it – This is an amazing wisdom from HH Radhanath Swami. As we know from our experiences often our expression of gratitude is a very superficial level. What HH Radhanath Swami instructs us here is to express our gratitude from our heart. Also, expressing our gratitude through service is a very deep understanding. Many thanks for publishing this wisdom.

    1. well said.. we should be grateful for whatever krishna is providing us.. and also grateful to the persons like radhanath swami who are giving us the timeless wisdom from the vedic literatures..

      1. Laura, where are you from? Welcome to discussions on gratitude.

I agree with you. Radhanath Swami is extracting the essence of timeless wisdom given in the Vedas.

    2. In today’s world gratitude is rare. So, even if a person says thank you, that is a big deal. But to go deeper into spirituality, gratitude has to go deeper. We need to start reciprocating with what the Lord has done for us, is doing for us.

God does not want anything from us. But we need to reciprocate with his love to revive our love for him.

      1. Actually what you said makes a lot of sense. For real purification of heart one should try to cultivate this vital quality of gratitude.

        1. What I found remarkable is the deep meaning of Gratitude that HH Radhanath Swami Maharaj brings out! Gratitude should result in heartfelt and spontaneous desire to serve the person for whom we are having that feeling! I never thought about gratitude so deeply! Thank you Maharaj for giving a wonderful lesson!

          1. Yes, this really is a wholesome perspective of gratitude. Service should be the way to express our gratitude.

          2. Very well said Niranjan pr. Mostly my understanding of gratitude was saying Thank you and that’s it. Its very superficial. But the deeper meaning as revealed by HH Radhanath Swami changes this perspective completely. Also, in another instance its mentioned that we even need to be grateful to our critics for helping us to understand our faults. Now that takes some spiritual practice to undertsand and realise it 🙂

          3. Well said Anand. Feeling grateful to critics is really something far off at least for me.
